Testimonials
"Ken Gourlay came to our school assembly to receive a donation towards his fundraising for the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust, to present annual awards to our sailing students and to give a presentation to the whole student body based on his record-breaking circumnavigation.

Ken's presentation was enormously captivating. There were very few people in the audience who knew anything about sailing, but they didn't need to. as Ken related his story of his epic voyage he used language that everyone could understand and where a nautical term was necessary, he carefully explained it's meaning in layman's terms. The Audio visual presentation which accompanied his address was excellent and transported the viewer to Ken's world.

It's not always easy to capture the imagination of teenagers, but Ken's message really appealed to the student, aged from 12 to 18 years. The presentation was not merely a tale of his adventure and the ways in which he overcome some very challenging aspects of the trip, which was very interesting in itself. The most important part of Ken's message related to life's journey, the highs and lows, and how to discover one's inner strength to not only cope with life's challenges, but to thrive on them.

In short, our school found Ken's Presentation to be inspiring and motivating. the students came away with a new insight into sailing the world's oceans and along the way picked up some important messages to help them to "sail through life."

"Ken is a Tasmanian solo yachtsmen recently returned from the fastest circumnavigation of the world by any Australian. he is also the oldest person to achieve this. Our men's health group invited Ken to speak about his experience at a recent men's health night. Ken was able to quickly develop a rapport with the audience because he comes across as an ordinary bloke. In fact he stresses that he is exactly that, but he was lucky enough to be able to follow his dream of sailing around the world. He spoke candidly about his highs and lows and the impact on his overall health during and after his adventure. He is happy to reveal himself to the core with ease which is a special talent. His delivery style is relaxed but totally engaging and use of visuals and video complemented his presentation. The many questions generated by the audience was a reflection of the fascination for his story."

"The focus of the night was the fascinating description of the highs and lows of Ken's epic voyage, illustrated by his photos and finished off by a six minute video presentation. As we listened it became clear what motivation, self reliance, skill levels and strength were needed for an achievement such as his and the questions that followed were an indication how the audience appreciated this."

"Ken's personal presentation did not disappoint. His subtle backdrop of screen and movie demonstrated the challenge of natural forces including sea and sailing extremes. This presentation was acknowledges by the club to be the most inspiring and enjoyable experience for members over recent years."
